session banjo

We acquired this clock at estate auction of an old clock repair man. He had over 100 clocks and we bought 17 of them.

This clock named “Revere” was made between 1923 and 1927 and is a time only Sessions banjo clock about 36 inches tall. The case has a mahogany finish with reversed painted glass. It has an iveriod dial.

From a 1927 advertisement

The case has original finish and cleaned up very well. The only flaw on the finish is where you open the dial bezel to wind and set the hands. The reversed paintings on the glass are in great condition.

the original iveriod dial (celluloid coated paper) is cracking with a few pieces missing. The paper label on the back of the case is in great condition.

The only thing that is not original to the clock is the winding key.

The clock did not run and needed repaired. Took the movement out of case and immediately could see two pivot holes in the back plate severely worn. The movement then was disassembled, cleaned and worn pivot holes re-bushed. It was then reassembled, oiled and tested on a clock movement stand for a few days. It ran like new again and was put back into the case.
